As noted in the "Waypoints" section of the website, BBSA originated as a small boat racing club. Today, BBSA still sponsors two major One Design regattas every summer: the Broad Bay Regatta and the Richard B. Johnston Memorial Regatta. All types of small boat sailors are encouraged to attend and those not having enough for a one-design start will be scored together using the Portsmouth handicap system. BBSA also has a weekly small boat racing series on Willoughby Bay known as the Little Bay Small Boats. Racing is every Wednesday evening starting at 6:00pm for all types of boats.
