Little Creek Sailing

In 1993, Maury Jackson, "Neureus", started the Wednesday evening races out of Little Creek Inlet and Little Creek Sailing Association also known as LCSA. The remarkable Maury Jackson, Ken Gimbert and his crew acted as the race committee and scorers every Wednesday night for the first two years!

Finally, in 1995, John and Julie Cobb, Cobb's Marina, volunteered to
complete the race committee duties so all could race. Today, each boat competing takes a turn at the RC duties! The competitors never know what race course will be chosen or how the RC will handle the duties so it is always a challenge!

In the early days there were at least fifteen boats signed up and racing. Today, over thirty members are racing out of Little Creek Inlet... on any given Wednesday there are eighteen to twenty boats on the starting line.

After the race, captains, crew and bar flies gather at the Bay Point Grille overlooking the inlet to celebrate their sail, defeat or victory. Quite often the Bay Point Grille will offer specials to the winning sailors (and sometimes losers depending on their performance!)

In 1994, Di Ricks, Broad Bay Sailing Association and the Little Creek Sailing Association inaugurated the "Little Creek Cup", which was originally a sailboat race created to benefit the American Cancer Society. Commencing in 2001, St. Jude Children's Research Hosptial became the beneficiary of the race. The Little Creek Cup will take place the first weekend in August with the race being held off of the Ocean View area of Norfolk.
