2014 was the last year of the Little Bay Challenge; an individual and team racing event co-sponsored by the Portsmouth Boat Club. For 18 years, boats raced for individual honors as well as contributing to the score for overall team competition (past club winners). In 2015, Norfolk Yacht and Country Club began hosting the New Willoughby Challenge following a smiliar team competition concept.
In 2016, BBSA began it's own 'intramural' race, the Broad Bay Sailing Championship. This race is for individual prizes as well as a team competition between Willoughby Racers, Little Creek Sailing Association, and an 'at-large' team made up of BBSA skippers that don't belong to either of the other two organizations. In 2017, Bold Mariner Brewing became the title sponsor as these teams now compete in the Broad Bay Sailing Championship for the Bold Mariner Cup.
The Leo Wardrup Memorial Cape Charles Cup is a CBYRA-sanctioned weekend event with 2 races; Race 1 starts on Saturday from the Little Creek area and ending at Cape Charles. After a big party and trophies that evening, competitors race back across the Bay on Sunday. More information is at CCCup.net.
BBSA's last race of the season, Neptune's Atlantic Regatta, is affiliated with Virginia Beach's Neptune Festival and is also a CBYRA-sanctioned event. Starting off Little Creek, racers transit the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, sail down the coast, and finish off 24th street. After a night of fun at the Festival, participants leave the event's complimentary Rudee Inlet dockage and return home. More information is on the regatta page.
