To be scored, you need to sign up for a race committee date. If you don't see your name on the Race Committee Schedule, then you have not signed up, and will not be scored. Also, make sure you have renewed your PHRF Rating.

Crew-U is an introduction to sailing for beginners, teaching the essential skills needed to crew on a racing sailboat. The course covers the basics:

learning the parts of a sailboat,
how it works, and
fundamental sailing maneuvers like tacking, jibing, sail trim, basic knots and teamwork.

No prior experience is needed, just a willingness to learn! By the end of Crew-U, you'll be ready to step aboard with some confidence and may contribute as a valuable member of any sailing crew.

COST: $75

(includes seminar training book and refreshments)

BBSA Cape Henry Cup (Saturday, May 16, 2026)

The 2026 BBSA Cape Henry Cup will be held on Saturday May 16, 2026, with a 0930 scheduled first start. This is a long-distance race in the lower Chesapeake Bay. The race officers select from multiple course options prior to the race depending on the weather. The racecourse length may be over 20 nautical miles for the faster divisions.

Entry fee is WAIVED for all BBSA members!

The Cape Henry Cup Race was established in 1974. As one of the most popular races on the southern Chesapeake, the course originally passed out through the Maryland Channel opening of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel and returning through the Thimble Shoal Channel opening. This year we will continue this tradition, with two of the three courses passing through both the northern and southern openings of the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, including the Thimble Shoal Channel entrance. The three courses are scheduled to be 26.1 NM; 22.8 NM and 10.6 NM.

Marking the 250th anniversary of our nation’s founding, a fleet of international tall ships will sail into the port of Virginia on June 19, 2026. The 26 nautical mile spectacular parade will feature ships from around the world sailing together into downtown Norfolk.

On Friday, June 19, 2026, The Parade of Sail escorting the international tall ship fleet will depart from the Lynnhaven Anchorage off the Virginia Beach Shore Drive Lesner Bridge area, sail through Hampton Roads, and into the Elizabeth River.

Leo Wardrup Memorial Cape Charles Cup (Friday, August 14, 2026)

Sponsored and organized by BBSA, the 23rd Annual Leo Wardrup Memorial Cape Charles Cup (LWMCCC) will be held on August 14-16, 2026. This 2-day distance racing event with its overnight destination of Cape Charles is unique to racing in the southern Bay. Both days are part of the Southern Bay Distance Racing Series (SBDRS).

The Saturday leg races from Little Creek to Cape Charles. Enjoy the after-race awards social at our new location: an open space in town, next to the Cape Charles Town Harbor and across from Gull Hummock Gourmet Market. Have dinner and drinks with friends, and sight see or shop in Cape Charles. Dock at Cape Charles Town Harbor, Cape Charles Yachting Center, or Oyster Farm Marina at King’s Creek.

Entry Fee: $135.00 if received by July 17th; $195.00 if received thereafter. New boat owner’s fee is $95.00. Once you are registered, email a photo of your boat to CCCpics@broadbaysailing.org by July 17th to be included in the yearbook and website. Entry fee includes registration, one Cape Charles Cup hat and short sleeve tee shirt, two Saturday dinner tickets, and a Cape Charles Cup skipper’s bag loaded with useful and interesting stuff.
